Hotspot 2. Donnington Bridge
This road bridge was built in 1962, replacing a footbridge. The old crossing had been a free ferry linking the settlements along the road to Abingdon with those along the road to Wallingford and Henley. The bridge continues westward as a raised road above watermeadows and then bridges the western arm of the Thames; on this western arm is a weir and the site of a mill called Weirs Mill, approached by Weirs Lane; the name survives in the western approach to the bridge.
