Hotspot 6. Rose Hill Methodist Church

This has been much enlarged; the original chapel was built by the Reverend Henry Leake, a Wesleyan minister, and opened in 1835. It has its own small burial ground. Mr Leake was an Iffley resident but he chose his plot outside the then parish boundary; there was "feeling" between the established church and the nonconformists. As the 19th century continued, the spread of nonconformity is one reason why Church of England parish registers become less and less adequate as records of communities.
