19. Grove House
|
Grove House has had various names; it is an early-19th-century house with decorative iron verandah; the garden behind it has been enlivened by the late owner Vivien Greene. There is also a small rotunda, built by Graham Greene, which housed Mrs Greene's Dolls' House Museum until 1998. The mother of Cardinal Newman lived here in the 1830s. Sir George Forrest, historian of the Raj, lived here until his death in 1926 and gave the village its Memorial Institute. |
