Nowell School House
was built in 1822 to house the Nowell charity school. See Fairfield, S.,
Mrs. Nowell's School. In the 1850s, the school was amalgamated with the
parish school, to which the charity contributed by paying for a second teacher;
the house became her house and was so until 1880 when it was rented out;
it was sold in 1985 and has been radically altered. However, its appearance
from the road is the same and inside the front door is the cupboard with
the numbered hooks, where the children hung their cloaks. |
