Saint Augustine's
Upper School was formed in 1984 by combining the Roman Catholic school of
St Edmund Campion (on the site) with the Church of England school of Cowley
St John. This ecumenical scheme had to hold together two different approaches
to education: Catholic schools are traditionally for children of Catholic
families; Church of England education is traditionally for "the poor"
i.e. anyone in need of it, of all faiths and none. The partnership
is to be dissolved and the school will close in 2003. |
