Azor's Court, Sheepway Court,
Stone Quarry Lane and Bear's Hedge all date from 1981 and use names from
local history. Azor held the Saxon Manor (see History, Domesday); Sheepway
is the old name for Tree Lane (see 8); Stone Quarry Lane recalls the old
stone pits off Tree Lane, and Bear's Hedge (said to be named from a travelling
act with a dancing bear) was part of the old township/parish boundary.
Unfortunately, close scrutiny of maps and aerial photographs reveals that
"Stone Quarry Lane" was built by the Bear's Hedge, and "Bear's
Hedge" adjoins the stone pits
.an impressive standing stone
set up in Bear's Hedge may have been found on site.
